The European Institute of Science is a unique center of excellence with competence in biotechnical/medical research, international networking, business management, economics and in prototype design & construction. The business of idea of the Institute is a new private incubator concept where projects are created and developed in the Institute’s research facilities and subsequently, the projects are exploited in offspring companies or by licensing. Since the Institute has its own laboratories and prototype workshop facilities, “soft capital” in the form of company facilities and know-how can be offered to researchers and smaller companies which possess promising ideas. In return for its resources, the Institute becomes a part owner in the early stage projects. As a center of excellence the Institute has the ability to identify and evaluate high risk projects which are innovative and promising. Thus, the Institute has the advantage over other investors, because it can enter into projects during an early stage and receive part ownership or licenses. The European Institute of Science investment strategy has an investment horizon of usually between 4-10 years. In order to attract promising ideas from local scientists, the European Institute of Science is employing researchers and university students on a temporary basis in order to conduct exploratory research and development which is being patented as well as published in international scientific journals.
